Destination wedding in Kerala: a planning checklist

A destination wedding is really two projects at once: the celebration itself, and the hospitality operation that gets your guests there and looks after them. Both need attention from the start.

Match the venue to the format

• Backwater resorts: beautiful for intimate functions, limited by room count and boat access.
• Beach venues: strong visually, but wind, tide timing and light need planning.
• City hotels in Kochi or Thiruvananthapuram: easiest for large numbers and travel connections.
• Hill venues: cooler and scenic, with longer transfer times to factor in.

Confirm permissions and logistics

Check sound curfews, decoration and open-flame rules, drone permissions, and vendor entry timings in writing. For outdoor functions, agree the covered backup space before booking.

Guest stay and travel

• Block rooms across two or three price points near the venue.
• Arrange airport and railway transfers, and shuttles between hotels and functions.
• Send a short guest guide with the schedule, dress notes and local information.

Build the multi-day schedule

A common flow is a welcome dinner, a mehndi or sangeet, the main ceremony, the reception, and a farewell brunch. Give each function its own design, timeline and catering brief rather than treating them as one long event.
